How to calculate a discount
To calculate a percentage discount manually, multiply the original price by the discount percentage and divide by 100 to get the savings amount. Then subtract that from the original price to get the final price. For example, 20% off £89.99 — savings = £89.99 × 20 / 100 = £18.00 — final price = £89.99 − £18.00 = £71.99.
A quicker method is to multiply by (1 − discount/100). For 20% off: £89.99 × 0.80 = £71.99.
