How to add hours and minutes

Adding hours and minutes is trickier than adding regular numbers because the system is base-60 — 90 minutes equals 1 hour 30 minutes, not 1 hour 90 minutes. This calculator handles the conversion automatically. For example, 3h 45min + 1h 30min = 5h 15min (because 45 + 30 = 75 minutes = 1 hour 15 minutes).

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate hours worked?

Select "Time difference", enter your start time (e.g. 09:00) and end time (e.g. 17:30). The calculator will show you worked 8 hours 30 minutes.

Does it work for night shifts that cross midnight?

Yes. If the end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator assumes the shift crossed midnight and calculates correctly.

Can I add more than two durations?

Add the first two, then use the result as the first duration with the next one.
