How to work with fractions

Adding/subtracting: Find a common denominator, convert both fractions, then add or subtract the numerators. Example: 1/3 + 1/4 = 4/12 + 3/12 = 7/12.

Multiplying: Multiply numerators together and denominators together. Example: 2/3 × 3/4 = 6/12 = 1/2.

Dividing: Multiply the first fraction by the reciprocal of the second. Example: 2/3 ÷ 4/5 = 2/3 × 5/4 = 10/12 = 5/6.

What does simplifying a fraction mean?

Reducing it to its simplest form by dividing both numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor (GCD). For example, 6/9 simplified is 2/3 (dividing both by 3).

How do you divide one fraction by another?
