🥚 Egg Calorie Calculator

Find out how many calories are in one egg or a serving of several eggs. Choose the egg size and cooking method to estimate calories, protein, fat and carbohydrates. You can also compare the calories in egg whites and yolks.

Calories in eggs by size and cooking method

The number of calories in an egg depends mainly on its size and any ingredients used during cooking. Boiled, soft-boiled and poached eggs generally have similar calorie counts when prepared without added fat. Fried eggs usually contain more calories because of the oil absorbed during cooking.

Method Small (S) Medium (M) Large (L) XL
Boiled / Soft-boiled 62 kcal 77 kcal 91 kcal 106 kcal
Poached 62 kcal 77 kcal 91 kcal 106 kcal
Scrambled (no added fat) 62 kcal 77 kcal 91 kcal 106 kcal
Fried (little oil) 90 kcal 112 kcal 133 kcal 155 kcal
Fried (more oil) 110 kcal 137 kcal 163 kcal 190 kcal

Values are approximate estimates per egg. The calories in fried eggs depend on the amount of oil used and how much remains on the egg. Scrambled eggs made with milk, butter or other ingredients will also contain additional calories.

Nutritional values of a medium egg

A medium egg provides protein, fat and a small amount of carbohydrates. The egg white is rich in protein relative to its calories, while the yolk contains most of the egg's fat and several vitamins and minerals.

Nutrient Whole egg White (~33g) Yolk (~17g)
Calories 77 kcal 17 kcal 55 kcal
Protein 6.5g 3.6g 2.7g
Fat 5.3g 0.1g 4.5g
Saturated fat 1.6g 0g 1.6g
Carbohydrates 0.6g 0.3g 0.3g
Cholesterol 186 mg 0 mg 186 mg
Vitamin D 1.1 µg 0 µg 1.1 µg
Vitamin B12 0.6 µg 0.1 µg 0.5 µg

Nutritional values are estimates and vary with egg size and preparation. The white and yolk figures may not add up exactly to the whole-egg values because of rounding and differences in the reference portions.

Which cooking method has the fewest calories?

Boiled, soft-boiled and poached eggs are useful options if you want to prepare eggs without adding cooking fat. Scrambled eggs can also have a similar calorie content when made without oil, butter, milk or other calorie-containing ingredients.

Fried eggs tend to contain more calories because of the oil or butter used in the pan. The difference depends on how much fat is added and how much ends up in the finished serving.

If you are counting calories, remember to include any oil, butter, cheese, milk or other ingredients added to your eggs. The cooking method alone does not tell you the exact nutritional value of the finished dish.

How to calculate calories in eggs

To estimate the calories in a serving, choose the approximate value for one egg of your size and cooking method, then multiply it by the number of eggs. Add the calories from oil and other ingredients separately if they are not already included in the estimate.

Total calories = calories per egg × number of eggs + calories from additional ingredients

For example, two medium boiled eggs provide approximately 154 calories using this calculator's estimates. Two medium fried eggs with a little oil provide approximately 224 calories, although the actual total will depend on the amount of oil used.
